For students interested in a doctorate who want to go through a well-considered, systematic decision-making process that also takes into account personal life concepts.

What is the goal?
The aim of the workshop is to enable you to systematically reflect upon all relevant aspects and to support you in your individual decision-making process. The workshop is based on a pluralistic understanding of careers and is open-ended: The decision to do a doctorate and the decision to pursue a career in industry, society or as an entrepreneur are seen as equally valid options. The aim is to provide you with effective tools for making a subjectively suitable decision.

What are the topics?

  • Reflection on motivations and concerns
  • Research personality interview: Competencies, research highlights, challenges overcome, preferred research activities
  • Doctoral test: Which type of doctorate suits me?
  • Future projection “Doing a doctorate”
  • Future projection “Creating career satisfaction elsewhere”
  • Take stock and clarify next steps in the decision-making process

What is the format like?
Interactive format with information input, self-reflection questions, image card selection, sociometry, peer-to-peer exchange and Q&A sessions in a group of 12 students from different disciplines.

What are the requirements for participation?
Participation in the lecture “Doing a doctorate at the University of Stuttgart: How does it work?”.
