IEEE CSS Distinguished Member Award for Professor Frank Allgöwer

Prestigious accolade for system theoretician from the University of Stuttgart

The Head of the Institute for System Theory and Control Engineering at the University of Stuttgart, Professor Dr.-Ing. Frank Allgöwer, has been awarded the IEEE CSS Distinguished Member Award for his scientific contributions and his long-term commitment in the IEEE Control Systems Society (CSS). Frank Allgöwer is the first German to receive this award. The award was presented on 17 th December at the 2015 IEEE Conference on Decision and Control in Osaka, Japan.

Frank Allgöwer, born in Heilbronn in 1962, has been the Head of the Institute for System Theory and Control Engineering since 1999. He is involved on selected science and university committees and in national and international organizations and is the editor and co-editor of various international professional journals. He has been the Vice President of the German Research Foundation since 2012, in the years 2013 and 2014 he was Vice-President of the IEEE Control Systems Society. He has been awarded various prizes, among others the Gottfried-Wilhelm-Leibniz Prize from the German Research Foundation in 2004.  

The IEEE CSS Distinguished Member Award has been awarded since 1983. The Control Systems Society is part of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), that is considered to be the world’s largest trade association for engineers with over 430,000 members in over 160 countries.
