Educational resources are media / materials to be used for the planning, implementation and evaluation of teaching and learning:
- Lecture videos, scripts
- Digital or printed textbooks
- Lectures, parts of lectures, slide presentations
- Course materials for learners and / or teachers
- Prepared online courses or lecture notes with or without accompanying teaching materials
- Textbooks, videos, idea sketches, tutorials, worksheets, graphics, photos, videos, simulations, project reports, question pools, tools ...
Benefits from Open Licensing
Unlike US Copyright, German copyright law doesn’t allow “fair use”. All media or educational resources therefore are protected by copyright law ("all rights reserved") and may, without the authors’ explicit permission, only be used in specific teaching context and under strong restrictions (s. limitations and permissions).
Open licenses, at best Creative Commons licenses, permit no-cost access, re-use, re-purpose, adaptation and redistribution by others with any or just few restrictions.
Openness primarily refers to the legal and technological facilitation of access and subsequent use for further development by third parties as well as unlimited distribution without any geographic or time restrictions.
