The aim of TechnikRadar is to conduct continuous monitoring of the German public. This lecture presents the findings of the first survey period from late fall 2017 on the subject of digitalization and its various effects on society. What do German people think of this development? Which positive and negative expectations does it evoke? What conclusions can be drawn from public opinion that could be applied to future technological developments and their implementation? This lecture by Jürgen Hampel and Michael Zwick will take an in-depth look at these and other questions explored by the TechnikRadar project at ZIRIUS.

ZIRIUS, the Center for Interdisciplinary Risk and Innovation Studies, in collaboration with the Körber Foundation and the German Academy of Science and Engineering (acatech), were responsible for initiating TechnikRadar. The project is a reaction to the varied and far-reaching consequences of technological change for both people and infrastructure in Germany. It also seeks to rectify the striking lack of solid survey data available on the opinions of the German people on new technologies. TechnikRadar is also intended to encourage public debate about technological developments.
