Certificate Gender and Diversity

The certificate offers postdocs and (junior) professors at the University of Stuttgart the opportunity to deal intensively with the topics of gender and diversity in the areas of management, teaching and research.

Would you like to deepen your understanding of gender and diversity while enhancing your expertise and qualifications in this field?

As a postdoctoral researcher or (junior) professor at the University of Stuttgart, you can obtain the certificate “Gender and Diversity in Management, Teaching and Research”. In this certificate program, you will explore diversity-sensitive management, teaching, and research, as well as inclusive research structures.

The certificate can be completed alongside the Personnel Development "Leadership Program" [de], the "On track to a University Professorship" certificate from GRADUS, or the "Baden-Württemberg Certificate for University Didactics" (HDZ). Participants can complete the certificate over multiple semesters with no fixed time limit.

The certificate is offered by the uniqUS unit, supported by the Vice Rectorate for Early Career Researchers and Diversity, the GRADUS graduate academy, Personnel Development and the Language Center.

Structure

The certificate consists of three modules, (1) management, (2) teaching and (3) research, which can be taken in any order. Each module requires a minimum of 16 units, with a total of at least 48 units needed to complete the program. On the ILIAS course page you will find detailed descriptions of the three modules.

Time required: 16 AE (1 AE corresponds to 45 minutes)

Content: In this module, participants take a critical look at leadership, management, and different management styles. They also reflect on the role diversity plays in management.

Requirements:

  1. Compulsory: Academia – What's My Share (online self-study course; 6 AE)
  2. Courses on the topic of "Management" or "Leadership" (e.g. in the Leadership Program) that have to do with gender and diversity
  3. e.g. workshop on “Unconscious Bias” (Language Center)

Time required: 16 AE (1 AE corresponds to 45 minutes)

Content: In this module, participants take a critical look at (their own) teaching. They learn about aspects of diversity-sensitive teaching and find out how they can make their own teaching diversity-sensitive and respond to the diverse needs of their students. 

Requirements:

  1. Mandatory: Joining the ILIAS resource “Diversity in Teaching”
  2. Courses at the HDZ in Modules 1 and 2
     may cover topics such as:
    1. Heterogeneous groups
    2. International groups
    3. Diversity-sensitive teaching
    4. Neurodiversity in teaching

  4. Option to receive credit for a lecture in the "Diversity in Research and Society" series

Content: In this module, participants deal with gender and diversity in various areas of research and the academic system.

Requirements:

  1. Compulsory: Accompanying interview with uniqUS (2 AE)
