First aid courses for physical emergency care are widespread in our society. But what about first aid for mental health? "MHFA Ersthelfer" is the German version of the Australian Mental Health First Aid program. A Germany-wide network has been established since 2020.

Anyone can become an MHFA first aider, including you! MHFA first aiders learn a basic knowledge of various mental health problems and crises in a 12-hour course.

General conditions:

  • Participation takes place during working hours and is free of charge.
  • The course consists of a total of 6 dates, these CANNOT be booked individually. It is a coherent concept that can only be completed in full.
  • The MHFA course is completely independent of the existing physical first aid training, there is no obligation to complete both courses, both the MHFA course and the physical first aid training are voluntary and independent.
  • The content of the course can be stressful and can also bring back personal experiences. To take part in the course, the Central Institute for Mental Health Mannheim recommends that you are a) in a stable mental health state and b) NOT in an acute psychological crisis.
