Animated short clips on discrimination from the diversity project "things that happen - the pitfalls of the ordinary" will be presented to the public for the first time at the University of Stuttgart. Members of the University and all interested parties are welcome to attend the soiree, and there will also be a small reception in the foyer of the Pfaffenwaldring 5a building.
The exhibition features 27 animated short clips by students from the Hochschule für Kommunikation und Gestaltung (HfK+G), which were created in 2023 under the artistic direction of Prof. Michaela Köhler, Simon Schillings and Prof. Davor Bakara. The brief video clips depict instances of everyday discrimination experienced by members of the University of Stuttgart community. Through compelling visual storytelling based on real events, 27 design students from HfK+G showcase the power of visual communication in addressing crucial social issues and sparking meaningful discussions
The soiree will be opened by Faculty 2's Diversity Officer and the former Diversity Officers from Faculty 10, Anne Weiss and Lisa Schöllhammer. Joining them will be Lars Kurt, the student representative from Faculty 10's Diversity Commission, along with the artistic directors from HfK+G. Guests include the Vice Rector for Diversity and Internationalization, Prof. Silke Wieprecht.
The online premiere will follow on Zero Discrimination Day on March 1, 2024.
(on the International Day of Tolerance, 16.11.2023), Soiree (30.01.2024) and online publication (on Zero Discrimination Day, 01.03.2024) are three parts of an ongoing dialog on the topic of discrimination at the University of Stuttgart.
The aim of the diversity project is to strengthen unity at the University of Stuttgart as we strive to ensure excellent research, teaching and support structures in an environment in which all members of the university feel welcome.
The short clips on discrimination at the University of Stuttgart are based on data more than 40 semi-structured qualitative interviews with members of the University of Stuttgart. Students, academic and research support staff and professors were interviewed and asked questions about their experiences of discrimination at the University of Stuttgart.
