Green infrastructure is becoming increasingly important in cities, helping to tackle global climate change, regulate the local microclimate, protect biodiversity and to promote chance meetings and social behavior. In a high density, such infrastructures offer our evermore diversified population integrative space for leisure, relaxation and experimentation. However, research shows that green spaces and infrastructure in cities are unevenly distributed and accessible, perceived differently by different groups and that in areas where land prices are high and there is competition between groups wishing to use the land, it is often put to other purposes. All of those involved (politicians, administrators, local companies and property developers, society in general) need to devise innovative ways of maintaining green infrastructure, and of networking and developing it. This urban learning lab aims to help develop interdisciplinary skills and contribute to finding a solution.

This seminar will be led by Prof. Dr. Cordula Kropp from the Institute of Social Sciences, Department of Environment and Technical Sociology. Entitled “Stadtgrün - urban learning labs for climate adaptation” this is an “urban learning lab”, organized in cooperation with the International Center for Culture and Technological Research (IZKT).

This project seminar is part of the MWK-funded project “Lehr- und Lernlabore”, which supports innovative teaching formats, as part of the “Change Labs” project at the University of Stuttgart.
