This exhibition presents placards used during the protests of 1968, from the collection of the Bibliothèque nationale et universitaire (BNU) Straßburg and the Württembergischen Landesbibliothek Stuttgart. The protests that gripped Germany and France 50 years ago had a lot in common: revolting against authority; criticism of capitalism, media censorship and the Vietnam War; not to mention the fight for sexual liberation. The placards from 1968 are complemented by images of current protests, created by the Grenoble-based artist Johann Rivat. Rivat was recently a stipendiary of the exchange program for visual artists organized between the state of Baden-Württemberg and the region Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes. The confrontation of the two protests cultures highlights parallels and developments taking place in these two neighboring countries.

Exhibition runs from:
March 16 to June 1, 2018

Opening hours:
Tues.–Thurs. 2pm–6pm and Fri. 10am–4pm,
Entrance is free and guided tours are available on request
