Prof. Richard R. Schrock
F G Keyes Professor of Chemistry, emeritus at MIT, USA
George K. Helmkamp Founder's Chair of Chemistry, University of California, Riverside, USA

Professor Schrock was awarded the Nobel Prize in 2005 together with Robert H. Grubbs and Yves Chauvin for his work in the area of organic synthesis. He developed catalysts with Molybdenum or Tungsten as central atoms that allow the use of the metathesis reaction for the production of various polymers and certain macrocyclic pharmaceuticals. Today, these reactions are of great importance for the chemical industry and enable energy and resource efficient production processes.

Prof. Schrock follows the invitation by Prof. Michael R. Buchmeiser and will present in his lecture how such catalysts are generated mechanistically, e.g. in large-scale technical processes.

The lecture will be held in English.
