Julia Gül Erdogan: Avantgarde computer use. Hacking in the 80s, or how to use the toilet to get online

Since the 1980s, their playful handling of technology and their role as pioneers in private computer use have made hackers important players in the computerization process in both East and West Germany. While the private use of computer networks was almost impossible in the GDR, hackers in the federal republic tried to thwart the monopoly of the German Bundespost with their entertaining yet critical actions. Julia Gül Erdogan from the Department for the History of the Impact of Technology (WGT), will be explaining how and why they did this and why hacking involves much more than just breaking into databases.

Registration is not required. Free of charge.
