Since the 1990s, David Rose, formerly of Harvard Graduate School of Education, and the Center of Applied Science and Technology (CAST) have championed the framework of Universal Design for Learning (UDL). Taken from architectural concepts of Universal Design (UD), UDL has three principles: Representation, Engagement, and Action & Expression. These principles have guidelines and checklists to help educators remove barriers from their course materials and instruction to support a more inclusive curriculum based on neurodiversity and learner variability. This workshop (in English) introduces the framework and UDL’s “Rising to Equity” initiative for Culturally Responsive/Relevant Teaching (CRT).
