Climate protection, CO2 neutrality and climate policy - in the Evangelisches Studienwerk and beyond
Climate protection is on everyone's lips and has become a central topic in politics. The question arises again and again as to whether legal regulations need to be tightened, or whether people need to pay more attention to climate protection in their everyday lives. A supposed contradiction - or is this simply two sides of the same coin? A further dilemma is balancing climate-friendly actions against other important aspects of life. Air travel accounts for a significant proportion of CO2 emissions. But does this mean that a semester studying abroad is negative? An important debate is unfolding here, particularly against the backdrop of educational mobility.
The Evangelische Studienwerk Villigst has been operating on a net climate-neutral basis since 2021. This means that all CO2 emissions resulting from our work are being offset. In addition, we are also striving to further reduce our emissions in many areas, such as by traveling to events in a climate-friendly manner or not using meat products in our catering. As part of our educational program, a group of scholarship holders has had the opportunity to participate in the World Climate Conference as observers since 2021.
The talk will present the climate strategy of the Evangelisches Studienwerk. The event will be followed by a discussion on this topic, but also on the work of the Studienwerk in general.

Dr. Michael Weichbrodt has been Director of Studies at the Evangelisches Studienwerk Villigst since 2014 and is responsible for the fields of international funding, underrepresented groups, and climate strategy.
"Lunchtalk: Impulses for tomorrow" is an event organized by the School for Talents at the University of Stuttgart, in cooperation with the Federal Ministry of Education and Research's (BMBF) Begabtenförderungswerk (programs for the promotion of talented students). The School for Talents is funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) as part of the Excellence Strategy of the German federal and state governments.
